Nearly 50 percent of diabetic patients suffer from neuropathy
pains. Numbness, tingling, burning, increased pain, disability to detect
changes in temperature, burning, stabbing, lancing or shooting pains, loss of
coordination, muscle weakness, muscle paralysis etc. are symptoms of diabetic
neuropathy. Diabetic is also the major cause of peripheral neuropathy. Neuropathy
is caused due to injured tissues or nerves that further affects functioning of sensory
nervous system.
Early detection and control of diabetes is helpful in delayingand prevention of diabetic neuropathy.
The most effective way to prevent diabetic neuropathy is controlling blood
sugar level and taking good care of foot.
Controlling sugar level
in blood: By keeping level of sugar normal in your blood,
you can easily delay or prevent neuropathic pains. Uncontrolled sugar level in
blood means more risk of these pains. To keep sugar level controlled, you need
to monitor level of sugar continuously. Apart from this, it is recommended for
diabetic patients to have A1C blood test three to four times a year to find average
sugar level in blood.
Foot Care: By visiting a doctor for examining foot
at least once in a year can prevent sores, ulcers and other foot problems
caused by diabetic neuropathy. You take a good care of your foot at home by
checking bruises, cuts, blisters, swelling, redness and peeling skin. By keeping
feet clean and dry and moisturizing to prevent cracks you can prevent different
foot problems caused by diabetic neuropathy.
